Calling all Optimists……………..this is what we are all about………….OUR LOCAL KIDS!
Cory Martelli (BTW – a fellow Optimist) needs US to step up and donate some of our time and assist him and his staff during these last two camps (the details are listed below). As well, I am including his website which will give each of you more information about Cory and The Hawk Sports Camp. Please consider physically assisting him and, most importantly, sign up your children and tell other parents about the camps. Years down the road, your children (and the children you will assist) will considered you a hero for giving them this opportunity (to mentally and physically grow) and they will always remember you for the giving them your time.
Hawk Sports Camp is a summer sports camp for kids ages 5-12 in the Canyon Lake Area.

THIS will verify the 1 million $ liability coverage from OI...Cory continues to operate as normal...Our Optimist volunteers are then also covered as "An Optimist Project"...A GREAT PARTNERSHIP!!!!!

OPTIMISTS HELPING KIDS
Once again, the Canyon Lake Optimist Club is living up to its mission of “Bringing Out the BEST in KIDS”. The new group has identified a need in the community and is starting a FUN 7on7 Flag Football League this spring for boys AND girls ages 7-12.
The season begins April 16th and ends May 21st with the registration process starting February 6th thru March 6th. Optimists expect a huge response, so it is recommended that parents sign up early to reserve a spot for their KIDS!!

ORATORICAL & ESSAY CONTESTS
The signature Optimist projects that give KIDS an opportunity for a $2500 college scholarship for the winning essay and speech winners are underway!!! We will have club contests for both events in February and March. Look for further details on the District web-site at http://www.stxd.org or call Katherine Lietzke to assist in these fun projects at 830/907-3100 .
ESSAY CONTEST Open to ALL KIDS not yet 19 as of 12/31/10 Write a 700-800 word essay on the following topic: “How My Education is the Key to a Successful Future” Club winning essay must be received by District by 2/28. ORATORICAL CONTEST Open to ALL KIDS not yet 19 as of 12/31/10 Contestant writes their OWN speech on the following Topic: “If I were Leader of the Free World, the First Issue I would Address Would Be..” Speech must be over 4 minutes, not to exceed 5 minutes Our club contest will be held on Sunday afternoon on March 27th, 2011 at a location to be determined Club Winner will then compete at the Zone Contest on Sunday April 10th….Zone Winner to Regional…that Winner to compete at District Contest in May where The Boy AND Girl winner both receive a $2500 college Scholarship. THESE CONTESTS ARE THE HEART OF WHAT WE DO… Past Winners of these contests include US Presidents, Hollywood icons, successful business folks, and solid citizens who credit their Oratorical experiences as a foundation for their careers!!! Be VERY careful about getting involved with these great projects…you could get COMPLETELY hooked on the reason you joined our Optimist Club…to have a very positive impact on our KIDS!!! |

CASINO JUNKET
Do you like the sound of the slots, the rattling of the chips, and the luck of the draw?? Then this trip is for YOU. An easy fund raiser for our club to support youth activities. We only need 40 people to make it happen and put $1500 in our treasury. Here are the details of the trip: In March we will supply a bus to leave Sunday morning for Coushatta Casino and spend the night, returning Monday evening. $75 gets you a double room, the bus ride, and a bunch of free play/chips.
