OPTIMIST CLUB OF CANYON LAKE Chartered May 25th, 2010 with 63 members Club #06-336
June….Our first fund raiser…a BBQ at the Owl Ranch..we had FUN July…organizing the club…met at various locations…helped at HSC Wade Gum sets up our web-site…occanyonlake.org August…established the “Blow Hard Team” at CLHS (Tunnel) Had a great club picnic at the Owl with music and FUN September…started organizing the Octagon Club at CLHS Assisted with Float-a-Soldier tubing with Sylvia Pena Had our Charter Awards picnic at the Owl Ranch October…started working with New Life…our on-going project Handed out Halloween treats with Goin’ Postal in Sattler November….volunteered as judges for home-school debates December….assisted CLHS with Holiday Basketball Tournament Provided $850 of food for New Life Christmas party and also sponsored 7 girls from Octagon/Optimist members Had our first Christmas Party at Italian Garden…great singing!! January…Established our permanent meeting place at the Library Started our first Essay Contest and plans for Oratorical February…Winning Essay sent to District, started on Flag Football Valentine’s Day Strawberry sales net over $1500…we had FUN March…Held our first Oratorical Contest…our KIDS went all the way to the District Finals…great participation by our club members Registered 43 KIDS for Flag Football ages 7-12….4 teams Started every other month Pot Luck on third Monday meeting April…Judged the “ART” category for Youth Appreciation Week Started our Flag Football season with special clinic by Coach Matt Monzingo and his staff…games at MVMS May…Completed Flag Football season…a FUN experience Had our second GREAT Pot Luck…super food & fellowship Memorial Week-end trip to Nimitz Museum…the KIDS loved it Octagon Club elects Officers….Caitlyn Valadez, President
JUNE & Beyond….Sponsoring “Boot Camp” for CLHYF, Assisting with Hawk Sports Camp, Learn to sail program & Sailing Racing Team Octagon Club project, Junior Golf, Summer picnic at the Owl Ranch, Adopt-A-Highway program, and continuing all the great projects we have achieved this past year. We will strengthen the committee structure of the club and serve more KIDS and the community as we continue to attract new members who understand our mission of “Bringing Out the Best in KIDS”
